Hanohano No ‘O Hawai’i – Lei Maile
Mark Yamanaka performing live at the Kumukahi Ukulele & Hula Festival held at Sam’s Town Live!, Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, NV. The song is entitled Hanohano No ‘O Hawai’i from his sophomore CD release Lei Maile which received five Na Hoku Hanohano awards. Accompanying Mark on stage is Bert Naihe, vocals and guitar and Eddie Atkins on bass.
Mark Yamanaka’s undeniable talent has been nurtured from a young age by renowned musician, composer and kumu hula, Johnny Lum Ho. Mark’s soaring voice is also perfectly suited for the specialized art of falsetto. He takes the teachings of Uncle Johnny and adds his own flair with enviable ease, then spices things up by effortlessly gliding into a rich and soulful baritone vocal.
After their performance, the Hilo trio was kind enough to talk story with us backstage at the Kumukahi Festival, Sam’s Town, Las Vegas.
Shout out to the Little Grass Shack! Au-Rite!
